Make a worker unavailable for work

In this article, we explain how to make a worker unavailable by creating and using an unavailable shift type.

Written by Emma Ianson

You can stop a worker from being allocated to visits at certain times or on specific days by marking them as unavailable. This helps make sure rotas reflect actual availability and avoids incorrect allocations.

Create an unavailable shift type

If one doesn’t already exist, create a shift type for unavailability:

  1. Click Bookings.

  2. Click Visit / Shift Types.

  3. Under Shift Types, click New.

  4. Enter a name, such as Unavailable.

  5. Clear the Shifts of this type can have visits assigned checkbox.

  6. Click OK to save.

Use the unavailable shift type

Once created, you can use this shift type in Shift Planning by either:

  • Adding it to a worker’s normal pattern of work for regular unavailability.

  • Adding one‑off unavailable shifts to block specific dates or times.

This prevents the worker from being allocated to visits during the unavailable periods.
