Error: User limit exceeded

In this article, we explain what causes the user limit error and how to reset the user count safely.

Written by Emma Ianson

The user limit exceeded error occurs when the maximum number of licensed users are already logged in. Additional users may be prevented from signing in, or existing users may be forced to log off.

You may see messages or behaviour such as:

  • 'User limit exceeded'.

  • 'Only X users can log in out of Y licences'.

  • 'Maximum user limit reached'.

  • System forcing users to log off.

This indicates that all available licences are in use, often due to inactive or stale user sessions.

To resolve this by resetting the user count, follow these steps:

⚠️ Important: To follow the steps, you must have Administrator permissions.

  1. Ask all users to log out of the system.

  2. Log in using an account with Administrator permissions.

  3. Click Settings, then click User Session.

  4. Click Reset User Count.

  5. Ask users to log back in.

This clears inactive sessions and releases licences for use.
