Remote desktop display issue

In this article, we explain how to fix Remote Desktop display issues by applying an external manifest file and a registry update.

If you’re Access Hosted and the Remote Desktop application isn’t displaying correctly, this is often caused by how the Remote Desktop client handles screen resolution. You can fix this by configuring the client to use the remote server’s resolution instead of your local desktop resolution.

To fix the display issue, follow these steps:

⚠️ Important: To follow the steps, you must have Administrator rights on the remote client machine.

  1. On the remote client machine, download the manifest file:

    • mstsc.exe.manifest

  2. Copy the file to the following location:

    • C:\Windows\System32\

📌 Note: This folder also contains the Remote Desktop executable (mstsc.exe).

  3. Download the batch file:

    • AddReg.zip

  4. Extract the ZIP file, then right‑click the batch file and click Run as administrator.

  5. When prompted, click Yes to continue.

    • A command prompt window opens briefly and then closes.

  6. Restart the remote client machine.

  7. After reboot, open Remote Desktop and test access again.

If the issue continues:

  • Confirm both files were downloaded and placed in the correct locations.

  • Make sure the batch file was run as administrator.

  • Restart the machine again if needed.
